Abstract. Significance. The article is focused on assessing rehabilitation potential of stroke survivals. Stroke results in sustainable somatic changes to the body associated with paralysis of extremities, hearing, speech, vision and memory impairments. Use of the new method of occupational therapy makes this study relevant. It focuses on identifying and developing hidden abilities of the patient regardless of opinion and instructions of the society.

The purpose of the study is to interpret results of medical, psychological, social, family and community diagnostics that define resources and human abilities in the course of re-socialization.

Methods used in this article include: analytical, narrative, client-centered, and occupational therapy.

Results. The article differentiates rehabilitation potential into several components; each component includes a number of factors defining internal reserves of the patient. Major principal components are as follows: potential of restitution and compensation of the impaired functions, restitution of psychological state of the patient, restitution of main abilities of daily and professional activities, restitution of social connections.

Conclusions.  The study suggests options for interpreting components of rehabilitation potential with due regard to medical, psychological, social and family and community status of the patient. Depending on prediction and identification of individual components of the rehabilitation potential it is divided into the following three degrees: high, average and low potential of rehabilitation.

Scope of application. Analysis of rehabilitation potential of stroke survivors can provide for explicating the study findings throughout healthcare including different diseases as well as encourage assignment of specialists knowledgeable in occupational therapy to the multi-disciplinary team.

Keywords: cerebral stroke; re-socialization; rehabilitation potential; aspect of rehabilitation; occupational therapy.
