Abstract

Significance. Spinal deformity is one of the most common pathologies in children and adolescents. Screening helps to identify borderline conditions and initial latent stages of spinal disorders; early initiation of treatment and prevention allow to use conservative measures to reduce incidence of costly surgical treatment. That is why issues related to early diagnosis of postural disorders and scoliosis are among the priorities in Pediatrics.

Purpose: to present experience in organizing the system and results of delivering specialized orthopedic care to children with spinal deformities in the Novosibirsk region with the participation of private medical organizations.

Research methods: analytical, statistical and organizational modeling.

Results. In 2010-2017, 318,670 school children of the decreed ages were screened in the Novosibirsk region. The screening results showed that 70.1% of children had posture and spinal deformities. including 1.8% of them with moderate and severe spinal deformity. 29.9% of all screened were apparently healthy.

Thanks to annual screening of school children and timely preventive measures the Novosibirsk region managed to achieved good results (summarizing the screening results for the 2016-2017 academic year): no cases of advanced spinal deformities and spinal deformities requiring surgical treatment. All children with postural disorders and spinal deformities, detected through screening, are under follow-up by pediatric traumatologists-orthopeadists of the Center for Pediatric Vertebrology.

Conclusion. Cooperation between the the Center for Pediatric Vertebrology, health care organizations and educational institutions within the created system allows to ensure continuity of care throughout prevention, correction and rehabilitation of spine deformities in children, contributing to better effectiveness of interventions.

Introduction of this system helped to improve accessibility of specialized orthopedic care to children, to identify diseases of the spine at their latent and initial stages, to timely prevent and correct spinal deformities, and to improve clinical effectiveness of treatment.
