The aim of the study was scientific justification for the basic direction of improvement in medical care for children with malignant tumors in Kursk region taking into account regional epidemiological features. The object of the study was the situation with the children’s oncopathology in the Kursk region for the period from 2001 to 2008. Data processing was carried out according to standard methods of the variation statistics . By analyzing the 2x2 contingency tables, the factors predisposing to the development of cancer pathology in children of Kursk region were identified. We used one-sided and two-sided Fisher's exact test. The differences were considered as statistically significant at a confidence level p <0,05. The cases of malignant neoplasms in children of Kursk region in dynamics (from 2001 to 2008) was assessed in comparison with trends in the Russian Federation. The cases of malignant neoplasms in children of Kursk region has increased from 8.49 in 2001 to 11.96 in 2008 per 100 thousand children, it is not significantly different from those of the Russian Federation. An increase in morbidity of malignant neoplasms more evident than in the Russian Federation was observed. The critical age periods in development of malignant tumors in children of Kursk region are present: 2 - 4 years, 10 - 12 years, and 6 - 7 years. Also marked are the factors influencing the development of malignant neoplasms in children , such as genetic, antenatal, intranatal, postnatal, as well as environmental impact on parents, The organization and functional model for malignant neoplasms prevention in children at the level of the Russian Federation has been developed.
