Thursday, 18 April 2013

Summary. The analysis of knowledge level of primary health care physicians in the prevention of cardiovascular disease, depending on the specialty and professional work experience was presented. Anonymous survey of 250 doctors and 200 interns therapeutic profile was performed. Questionnaire was conducted among the students of therapeutic medical training conducted by Kuban State Medical University in 2012 (56%) and among hospitals physicians in Krasnodar and the Krasnodar region (44% of respondents). Age of the respondents in the group of physicians ranged from 25 to 75 years, at an average of 46,0 ± 0,79 years. In the group of interns bound of the age range was 20 - 36 years, an average of 23,1 ± 0,19 years. Among the respondents 190 persons were from primary care and had worked as district physician for an average 16,9 ± 1,83 years. District physicians have shown the best results in comparison with the doctors and interns of other profiles, the knowledge of interns was 15-20% lower. Higher professional knowledge (78±4,3%) was demonstrated in the 41-50 years age group. The high awareness of physicians about the benefits of non-drug prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases has been revealed. However, the awareness of physicians about the criteria of early diagnosis and target levels of blood pressure was insufficient, that may lead to untimely started and inadequate monitoring and low efficacy of treatment. The importance of primary and secondary prevention of CVD was emphasized.

Based on this study the expediency of inclusion of questions concerning primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease into the educational programs of medical training was substantiated. The effective maintenance of physicians’ current knowledge level on this issue is possible through the introduction of a system of continuous education using elements of distant tutoring, telemedicine, bonus-and-credit system of certification.
