Abstract. Due to high prevalence and severe medical and
social consequences trauma and musculoskeletal system diseases among
children are important medical and social problems. Therefore questions
of further development and improvement of the traumatologic and
orthopedic service remain topical.
The aim of the study is to analyze dynamics of trauma
rates and prevalence of musculoskeletal system diseases in children and
adolescents in the Siberian federal region.
Materials and methods. The study is based on the analysis of the Siberian federal region official statistics for 2007-2011.
Results. The study identified a steady tendency towards
increased rates of trauma along with stabilized rates of the
musculoskeletal system diseases among children and adolescents. Trauma
rates among children and adolescents in the Siberian federal region
are lower compared to the similar rates in the Russian Federation in
general; however, growth rates significantly outpace the general rates
in the Russian Federation. Incidence of the musculoskeletal system diseases
among children and adolescents in the Siberian federal region is lower
than the general level in the Russian Federation; its growth rates are
similar to those in the Russian Federation. Despite decreased prevalence
of the musculoskeletal system diseases among children; an increased
number of certain nosological entities has been reported (deforming
dorsopathies, reactive artropathies). Data of preventive medical
check-ups over the study period shows decreased incidence of scoliosis
and posture disorders among children in the Siberian federal region
Scope of application. The study results can be used
in practical activities of the traumatologic and orthopedic services of
the Siberian federal region, in the development of target programs
aimed at improved organization of the pediatric traumatologic and
orthopedic service.
Conclusions. The study results helped to evaluate current
state of the traumatologic and orthopedic service in the Siberian
federal region and substantiate the need for further improvement of
its organization.
Keywords: Siberian federal region; diseases of the musculoskeletal system; trauma and poisoning; children and adolescent population.
