The aim of this work was to determine characteristics of morbidity and mortality in urban and rural population of the Novosibirsk region from diseases of the circulatory system on the basis of main indicators of morbidity based on data on the number of patients who appealed for care at health care facilities of the region and mortality from the circulatory diseases in 2002 - 2011. Incidence of diseases associated with high blood pressure in rural population (except for cerebrovascular disease) is significantly higher compared to one in the urban population. Both incidence and prevalence growth rates in rural population related to diseases of the circulatory system are significantly higher than those in urban population. There is a significant increase in incidence and prevalence of cerebrovascular diseases in rural areas against the background of a considerable reduction in prevalence with no evident changes in incidence in cities. Analysis of mortality revealed that the average annual mortality from diseases of the circulatory system as a whole, as well as all forms of ischemic heart disease combined, was significantly higher in rural population than the corresponding rates in urban population. Dynamics of mortality from diseases of the circulatory system in rural population is extremely unfavorable and characterized by the following features. There is a high rate of mortality from diseases of the circulatory system in rural population, while the rate of mortality in urban population has a reliable tendency towards decreasing. The mortality rate from all forms of ischemic heart disease has significantly increased in rural areas, while in cities the index remains at a lower level. Keywords: rural population; disease prevalence; disease incidence; mortality; diseases of the circulatory system. References
