Among one of the important economic challenges of the modern society, health protection and promotion in the context of negative trends in social and economic development and dangerous environmental pollution is one of the most complex and urgent issues. Objective indicator of medical, social, economic and environmental problems is health status of pregnant women and children of early ages who comprise a high risk group for pathology development due to pregnancy associated changes in responsiveness of women and physiological peculiarities of children: delay in the immune and interferon systems’ development, immaturity of antioxidant system, insufficient tissue immunity. The study purpose. To analyze reproductive system, gestation and postnatal period in women of fertile age residing in a large industrial city. Results. The study sample mainly included natives of the city or region – 96.8% and natives of other regions – 3.2%. The overwhelming majority of them were Russian – 89.5%. Analysis of maternal health showed that 26.7% were healthy, while 73.3% had different somatic disorders. Pregnancy complications were registered in 42% cases. Mothers with extragenital pathology constituted a substantial share as well. A high share of newborns with low body weight and macrosomes was also identified. Conclusions. The conducted clinical and epidemiological study of health of pregnant women in Tula showed that negative trends in prevalence of pregnancy, delivery and postnatal complications and reproductive function continue to increase. Spontaneous abortions and somatic disorders are on the rise as well. Scope of application. The acquired data can be used by Tula Government to develop regional programs aimed at preventing reproductive disorders in women.
