Abstract. Population ageing challenges the globe. Since
the mid of the XX century ageing is progressing all over the world. It
is accompanied by age-specific changes, health worsening, difficulties
with independent living, mobility disorders and some other limitations
affecting quality of life. Therefore, improving quality of life of the
elderly remains a priority. Use of different forms of social work
restores behavioral, personal and psychological characteristics i.e.
improves life quality of the elderly.
The purpose was to study different forms of social work with the elderly improving their life quality.
Material and methods. The authors have selected 32
literature sources for analysis (a total of 187 sources were analyzed).
Selection criteria included information about different forms of work
with the elderly that improve their quality of life – issues related to
social and daily living adaptation, ergotherapy, social and
psychological assistance, training in social communication, assistance
in social and cultural adaptation and rehabilitation, health and fitness
activities.
Results. Majority of the countries are paying a more
focused attention to gerontology issues. An elderly person experiences
age-specific changes as well as health disorders affecting quality and
mode of living, problems of self-maintaining and locomotion emerge,
social communication decreases and working activity terminates or
limits. Use of various forms of social work restores behavioral,
personal and social characteristics resulting in better life quality of
the elderly.
