Abstract. Environmental problem is relevant across all climatic zones. In conditions of the Far North and equated areas, natural environment affected by industry, especially in resource-producing areas, is hard to re-build. Naturally, it negatively affects health of the indigenous minorities of the North.

Health of the indigenous minorities of the North still remains a relevant topic. It is necessary to identify factors affecting health of the North population. Many studies are devoted to this problem.

Work purpose: to summarize and interpret results of the sociological survey conducted in 2015 in the Nefteyugansk region of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District - Yugra.

Methods. The author analyzed available publications; summarized and processed results of sociological surveys on the study topic.

Results. According to the studies’ results, the majority of respondents in the district (75.3%) noted that industrial mining leads to deterioration of the environment, which in its turn affects health of the indigenous population.

Also the indigenous population is forced to displace from their land area resulting in degradation of their cultural identity (34.2%). 39.7% of the respondents consider environmental state of the region as below satisfactory.

Respondents consider the following factors as affecting population health: insufficient water quality (56.2%), heavy drinking and alcohol addiction (52.1%), air, soil and water pollution, poor quality of medical care and shortage of money for medicines (38.4% respectively), unemployment (lack of income) – 37.0% and poor quality of food (34,2%).

Conclusions. In general, respondents’ opinion about the topic under study is controversial. Most of the respondents consider environmental situation in the region as below satisfactory. It should be noted here that health indicators are affected by the following factors: access to medical facilities, availability of modern diagnostic equipment, qualification of doctors in small settlements, etc. Life style also makes a significant impact on health status and accounts for about half of all cases of diseases.
