Summary. The article deals with the features of Russian
adolescents self-care behavior resulting from the qualitative research
undertaken in the urban and rural territories of Udmurtia Republic and
Moscow region in summer and autumn 2009. Insofar as health and mortality
indices are concerned, Udmurtia can be considered as a typical Russian
region with certain specific features. In comparison with the Moscow
region we find higher primarily morbidity rates in Udmurtia of such
diseases as certain infectious and parasitic diseases, diseases of the
respiratory system, diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue,
pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium, injury, poisoning and certain
other consequences of external causes and higher mortality rates of such
diseases as intentional self-harm, transport accidents, event of
undetermined intent, murder and diseases of the circulatory system. The
research results include standing out over than twenty self-care
behavior lines and thirteen self-care behavior directions that may have
different impact on adolescent morbidity and mortality: principal
attitude towards health and health life, responsibility for own state of
health, attitudes towards educational measures and public service
advertising, attitudes towards life expectancy, physical activity and
reposal, attitudes towards preventive measures and medical treatment,
diet, attitudes towards abortion, sexual relations, attitudes towards
suicide, transport accidents, injuries, smoking, alcohol and drug
consumption. The possible impact of self-care directions on adolescent
disease-specific morbidity and mortality rates is highlighted at the
final stage of the research.
