Summary. The article deals with the features of Russian adolescents self-care behavior resulting from the qualitative research undertaken in the urban and rural territories of Udmurtia Republic and Moscow region in summer and autumn 2009. Insofar as health and mortality indices are concerned, Udmurtia can be considered as a typical Russian region with certain specific features. In comparison with the Moscow region we find higher primarily morbidity rates in Udmurtia of such diseases as certain infectious and parasitic diseases, diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium, injury, poisoning and certain other consequences of external causes and higher mortality rates of such diseases as intentional self-harm, transport accidents, event of undetermined intent, murder and diseases of the circulatory system. The research results include standing out over than twenty self-care behavior lines and thirteen self-care behavior directions that may have different impact on adolescent morbidity and mortality: principal attitude towards health and health life, responsibility for own state of health, attitudes towards educational measures and public service advertising, attitudes towards life expectancy, physical activity and reposal, attitudes towards preventive measures and medical treatment, diet, attitudes towards abortion, sexual relations, attitudes towards suicide, transport accidents, injuries, smoking, alcohol and drug consumption. The possible impact of self-care directions on adolescent disease-specific morbidity and mortality rates is highlighted at the final stage of the research.
