The purpose of the study was to analyze indicators of morbidity in hospitalized patients in Omsk due to acute chemical poisoning in 2014 with a breakdown on age and sex groups depending of the toxic agent. Methods and data. The authors analyzed frequency of hospitalization with a breakdown on sex and age: age groups 15-19 years, 20-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years, 60 years and over affected by acute chemical poisoning in 2014. By etiology, all acute poisoning was divided into the following groups: ethanol and its surrogates, medicines, drugs, psychoactive substances, cauterizing and other poisons. Results. Over the study period, the majority of patients hospitalized in the Omsk City Centre for Acute Poisoning were males with the hospitalization frequency being 4.1 times higher compared to the female one. The highest rate of hospitalization due to acute chemical poisoning was detected in the age group of 15-19 years, both in men and women. The highest morbidity in hospitalized patients due to poisoning with psychoactive substances was registered in the same age group for both sexes. Conclusions. Acute alcoholic poisoning is more common in men and women of 40-49 years, indicating a peak morbidity due to chronic alcohol addiction and its severity in this age group in both sexes. The highest rates of morbidity in hospitalized patients due to poisoning with psychoactive substances were registered in men and women aged 15-19 years. Hospitalization rates due to poisoning with psychoactive substances in young age groups both in men and women are higher compared to similar indicators of narcotic poisoning. Emergence, prevalence and use in households of psychoactive substances of different genesis are strongly associated with adolescents and youth forming a negative trend in toxicological situation in the region. Furthermore, in future, this situation is likely to worsen the public health indicators. Keywords. Morbidity in hospitalized patients; acute chemical poisoning; age and sex groups; toxicological situation.
