Life expectancy of older people, potential years of life and major causes of death in Stavropol territory Print

Results. The analysis showed that the older ages (60 and over) account for 6.3 million years of potential life, with the older people accounting for its major share – 5.25 million years of potential life (83.3%).

Estimations showed that potential life lost due to death in older age groups in 2010 added up to 143 000 years accounting for 60.6% of losses in the age of 60 and over.

Potential life lost due to preventable causes in the age group of 60-74 equaled to 37 3 00 years (26.1% of total losses in this age group). Cerebrovascular diseases account for 61.0% of losses, arterial hypertension – 13.8%, myocardial infarction – 8.3%, breast cancer – 4.1%.

Furthermore, other preventable death causes including Tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus, acute pneumonia, gastric and duodenal ulcer, chronic pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction, hernias, and appendicitis, diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue and limb fractures account for 7.0% of potential years of life lost.
