Summary. The study analyzes peculiar features of morbidity of the population with urogenital diseases and diseases of the prostate gland. Official statistical releases of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare of Russia issued by Russian Statistical Committee and the data from the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare of the Region of Nizhny Novgorod for 2005-2009 were enrolled in this trial.

Diseases of the prostate gland are characteristic mostly for senior age male population, and as such they present not only medical, but also a social problem. Particularly, this morbidity lays additional burden on the whole working-age population.

Continuous trend for the growth of primary incidence of urogenital diseases was identified in the Russian Federation as a whole, as well as in the Privolzhsky (Volga) Federal District and in its part –Nizhni Novgorod region. These growing numbers could be partly accounted for by the improved revelation of these diseases arisen with the realization of National Project “Health” which had placed the revelation of diseases for a priority measure.

A rather stable and rather large portion of diseases of the prostate gland in the total structure of morbidity of urogenital diseases was determined. This phenomenon can be accounted for by demographic aging of the population. A growth in morbidity of the population with urogenital diseases and diseases of the prostate gland, in particular, was noted in the Russian Federation as a whole, as well as in the Privolzhsky (Volga) Federal District and in its part –Nizhni Novgorod region, so that the portion of this group of diseases everywhere had elevated in the structure of general morbidity. A more low growth of primary incidence of urogenital diseases was noted in the Nizhni Novgorod region in comparison with the Russian Federation as a whole. And the growth of general morbidity here was much linked to reiterated calls of patients already registered for treatment and follow-up.

Two factors – namely, follow-up and opportune primary access - had proved to reduce the number of complications of urogenital diseases as far as the registry and accounts of the healthcare settings were concerned.

The growth of incidence and certain peculiarities of the situation with urogenital diseases in the Nizhni Novgorod region require a thorough comprehensive study of lifestyles of the male population, evaluation of main risk factors for developing urogenital diseases, advances in organization of therapeutic and preventive care, a search for ways and means to improve the prevention of these diseases.

Keywords. Morbidity incidence; morbidity prevalence; genitourinary system; diseases of the prostate gland; National project “Health”.
